The day

Library time made of storytelling and kamishibai

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 10:30, we held “Monpe Aunties Storytelling” in the first-floor children’s corner of Omachi City Library. It is a regular free session with no reservation required.

The storytelling that day was “The Tale of Yagoro Weir” (a story from Tokiwa Shimoichi) by Yuko Nakajima. With a book open, she matched her voice to the children’s eye level. A small child looking up intently remains part of the warmth of the venue.

The kamishibai was “Ask the Eel” by Reiko Maruyama. A story of an eel shop suited to the summer doyo season was delivered with a wooden-frame stage and call-and-response. Riddles closed the session, and families enjoyed the day together.

Reiko Maruyama presented “Ask the Eel,” drawing the room in with pictures and voice.
